Live Real. Eat Real.

The Mom Show

It’s Friday and I’ve got a great big load of…nothing.  Sorry, I’m just all blogged out this week.

However, this week’s Spin Cycle is all about “Mom” in honor of Mother’s Day this Sunday.  It’s been awhile since I posted this, so for those of you who might not know, my mother was on The David Letterman Show in the late 80s.  She died of a heart attack 15 years ago at the age of 51; I wish I’d known then what I know now about healthy diet.

If you want to know the story behind this video clip, click here.  And have a great weekend, y’all.

OMG that was your MOM?! I remember seeing that episode and in awe of how fast she was whipping out the roses! :) Very, very cool. And now I see where you got your sharp wit and sense of humor from. ;) You know you’re making your mama proud as she watches over you from heaven, right? :)

Jan says:

Stacy, I’d live very much to believe that.

That’s absolutely awesome!

Gretchen says:

Oh. My. GOD. Your MAMA!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE her! I feel like I know her! She is so much like my ex-mother-in-law from my brief and misguided first marriage. What a character. I had no idea she was a baker. Where was her bakery in Dallas? I lived there then. She died at 51? Yikes, that’s how old I am now! I’m so sorry. I’m guessing a lot of that butter cream went into her mouth.

You are linked!!

Jan says:

It was Calendar Bakery on the corner of Inwood and I-35, and if you were ever there you most likely saw me, too, since I worked there from 1987 to 1994.

When you’re a cake decorator, you don’t eat much cake or buttercream – you just get to the point where you can’t stand the stuff – but plenty of Snackwells and other fat-free garbage found its way into her mouth, to say nothing of all those “healthy” vegetable-oils and whole grains. She also smoked a pack-and-a-half a day until the day she died.

Michele says:

Your mama was a brave woman. I would have never done that. I know how it feels to lose a parent so young. I’m still kind of pissed at my daddy.

Ack, I can’t see this at work! Must come back tonight!!!!

Damn! I can pound out the roses, but not that fast! Your mamma was awesome! I can’t imagine what it must be like to lose your mom at such a young age. My mother is just 1 year older than yours was when she died.
I know where your example came for your skill – and I’m sure she would be proud as hell today.

Linda Tustin says:

Oh My, I remember watching this a few years ago before I actually met you in person. Now that we have met I cried with laughter and tears through the whole video. This was filmed just a few weeks after my son’s birth- who is a college grad now, she reminds me of you so much!

Jan says:

Linda, that’s one of the nicest compliments I’ve ever received. :)

Blast, I can’t see it! The YouTube has a slash through it… Hmm.

Jan says:

I don’t understand why – I can see the video just fine. :(

Be says:

Do you have parental controls turned on? You know that Letterman is a dirty old adulterous leach! ( ;) )

You might be right! The iPad has been safety rigged..

Sean says:

Awesome, and nice accent.

Those were the days, when Letterman was actually funny.
