For me, it’s always been all about the food – and I’ve had the life-long weight problems to prove it. It wasn’t until recently that I realized it wasn’t so much the fact that I loved food, it was the types of food I loved.
The Standard American Diet (SAD) with it’s preponderance of refined flours and sugars, processed soy and seed oils and dearth of healthy fats and locally grown, fresh produce is the worst thing that has happened to our society in the last 40 years. Add factory farmed meats, fish and eggs into the equation and you have, well, a recipe for disaster as the growing epidemics of obesity, diabetes and heart disease prove.
But even before I made a permanent change to my diet in June 2010, cutting out wheat and refined grains, refined sugars, non-fermented and genetically modified soy, industrial seed oils and factory farmed meats and eggs, I was not often inclined to use prepackaged convenience “foods” (or what I like to call “the old dump and stir”). Oh, there was liberal use of all the ingredients I’ve mentioned here so I wouldn’t call it “real food” – not by my definition today, anyway – but it was more “real” than what many Americans (and Canadians and British, too) eat today.
Since my diet has changed irrevocably for the better, I decided it was time to make a change to my blog, as well. I didn’t want to remove my old “home cooking” recipes – if for no other reason than they still bring quite a bit of traffic to the site – but I didn’t want to leave them in the “recipes” category either, simply because they are no longer representative of how I cook and eat. After consulting with Beloved on what would be in the best interest of my readers, my blog and myself, I decided to move all of the old but well-loved recipes to this page. You can find them all listed below, by category and in alphabetical order.
