Reason #354 I’m Proud These People Call Me “Mom”

KidsExcerpt of a conversation between Oldest Son and myself:

Oldest Son:  So, what are y’all doing today?

Me:  Not much.  We may watch a movie later.

Oldest Son:  Oh, yeah?  What movie?

Me:  I dunno.  Beloved said something about Paint Your Wagon.

Oldest SonPaint Your Wagon?  Never heard of it.

Me:  It’s a musical.  From the 60s.

Oldest Son:  Anyone in it I’ve heard of?

Me:  Yeah; Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood.

(Silence)

Oldest Son:  A musical.

Me:  Yeah.

Oldest Son:  With Clint Eastwood.

Me:  Yup.

(More silence)

Oldest Son:  With singing and dancing.

Me:  Well, it’s been awhile since I’ve watched it, so I can’t say for sure that Clint is dancing, but he does sing.

(Yet more silence)

Oldest Son (scowling and squinting):  So, you wanna ask yourself:  Can you hit “high C”?  Well, can you…Punk?

Yes, it took me awhile to compose myself, too.

  1. Irish – yes, indeed; above the graphic are the words “Back in the Day.” Oldest Son could also be named Gamer Dude, and has an impressive collection of video game t-shirts; in fact, I am sending him one today that has Link, from Ocarina of Time, in what looks like stained glass on the front, along with a wallet with Samus from Metroid Prime on it (and a couple of other surprises, one of which I’ll blog about once he receives the package). We love us some Hot Topic.

The picture is actually a couple of years old, for that little guy in the middle? He’s The Young One and is now as tall as his older brother (being an Anime fan, he’s sporting a shirt with the symbol from Full Metal Alchemist).

Darling Daughter is wearing a Pink Floyd shirt…totally apropos for my, er, free spirit of a girl. While not quite as devoted to gaming as her brothers, she can still kick ass at Soul Calibur.

    We are such geeks.

  2. Rolling on the floor laughing! I couldn’t believe it the first time someone showed me that movie either! Now I have a crave to see it LOLOLOLOL- Your kida are beautiful.

  3. I love the movie – one of my favorite musicals. And truth be told Clint CAN hit the high C – well… at least he does a better job of it than Lee Marvin!
