Vote for Me on

Late last week I received an email from someone at  I’m sure you’ve all seen the magazine at the checkout counters of the grocery store, and for those of you who haven’t, Shape is a healthy lifestyle magazine in the U.S. aimed at women.  Anyhoo, the email informed me that I was a nominee for their first annual “Best Healthy Eating Blogger” contest, and would I please send in a 400px X 400px photo of myself?

“Oh, yeah,” I thought.  “Yank my chain some more – a national health magazine is really interested in my little blog?  Pppththththththth!”

And promptly forgot all about it.

Until yesterday, when I received yet another email from them, saying my page was up and to let my readers know so they could come vote for me.  I only gave the email a cursory glance – the unbloggable I mentioned yesterday was in the forefront of my mind – and, again, promptly forgot about it.  Then this morning I went to check my blog stats and noticed quite a few hits from – yup, you guessed it –

They were dead serious – Jan’s Sushi Bar is one of 20 blogs has nominated for the “Best Healthy Living Blogs of 2011:  20 Healthy Eating Blogs That Make Us Go Mmmmmm.”  Not only that, I am in the company of A-List bloggers such as Pioneer Woman, Smitten Kitchen, Chocolate and Zucchini, Joy the Baker and 101 Cookbooks.

To say I am overwhelmed and honored is an understatement.

So, I am going to do the unthinkable and ask you to vote for me.  Not because I want to win – frankly, with competition like Ree Drummond and Heidi Swanson, I don’t stand a snowball’s chance in Hell – but because I am the ONLY paleo/primal/traditional foods/real foods blog in the running.  I know you’re there, readers; I see it every day in the increased traffic looking for the kinds of recipes that I’ve been posting for the last 16 months, and in the enthusiastic feedback I’ve received from both longtime and new readers.

Please vote for me, because a vote for Jan’s Sushi Bar is a vote for paleo.  It’s a vote for primal.  It’s a vote for traditional.  It’s a vote for real food.

My nomination page can be found here.  You can vote for me by clicking the “Vote for this blog!” link, which will take you to a list of all the nominated blogs (you’ll have to scroll down), or you can go directly to the voting page.

Thank you all in advance…and for being there.

Voting concludes October 28.

  1. Ooo, ooo, ooo! This is SO exciting. I have voted! I feel so proud, one of our own is in the big leagiues, baby! YOU MUST NOT SHY AWAY FROM REMINDING US ALL DAILY TO VOTE FOR YOU! You know those other bloggers are going to shamelessly self-promote, and you should too! SO excited for you! You really, truly deserve it. And think of the self-promotion as a way to get that much closer to the elusive cookbook publishing deal!

  2. Wow, congratulations. But I’m not sure I can vote until I know where you stand on the whole “healthy starches” issue. Can’t be encouraging no splitters!

Seriously, Ree is great and she’s usually not shy about the SFAs but I think it’s obvious you crush her on the ‘healthy’ part. YES CRUSH I SAID CRUSH!!!!

  3. Oh, yay, I’m so glad you got nominated!! I just voted but my heart felt sadder when I saw that a “fat-free vegan” blog is way in the lead at the moment. Booo.

    Here’s to real food!!

  4. WOW! Congrats on the recognition. On your way to a best selling cookbook I am sure. You get my vote. I am gonna link to this on my blog.

  5. Fat free Vegan- blecchhgh. PALEO- rocks! And so do you! I’ll vote every day from both my computers if they let me.

  6. Dude, we’re losing to the vegans and a diet lady? No Way! You must remind us to vote every day and put the link in your post. We’ll show those vegans who brings home the bacon!!!

  7. OK, so I spent all day waging a sort of viral Jan campaign and we’re still way behind…I have two more posts to send out, then I’m spent. I am so excited that they picked your blog though! Go Jan!! I love and follow quite a few of the blogs they listed, but yours is by far the “healthiest.” And your plea for votes is so eloquent…Good luck!

  8. I was so PROUD to vote for you, woman! This is SO exciting! I just came over here to let you know that there’s a reason I’ve been MIA for a while. My grandson, oldest son and best friend/daughter-in-law finally did move to Seattle, and a few days later we had to send Hannah to heaven. So, it’s been a terrible few months. But I’m slowly trying to recover. Glad I came by today and saw this! Woo Hoo, so HAPPY for ya!

  9. looks like you’re getting a much bigger piece of the pie than yesterday. it’s gotta be because of the millions of readers from my blog helping you out. 😉 vote often….you know everyone else is.
