Live Real. Eat Real.

Vote for Me on

Late last week I received an email from someone at  I’m sure you’ve all seen the magazine at the checkout counters of the grocery store, and for those of you who haven’t, Shape is a healthy lifestyle magazine in the U.S. aimed at women.  Anyhoo, the email informed me that I was a nominee for their first annual “Best Healthy Eating Blogger” contest, and would I please send in a 400px X 400px photo of myself?

“Oh, yeah,” I thought.  “Yank my chain some more – a national health magazine is really interested in my little blog?  Pppththththththth!”

And promptly forgot all about it.

Until yesterday, when I received yet another email from them, saying my page was up and to let my readers know so they could come vote for me.  I only gave the email a cursory glance – the unbloggable I mentioned yesterday was in the forefront of my mind – and, again, promptly forgot about it.  Then this morning I went to check my blog stats and noticed quite a few hits from – yup, you guessed it –

They were dead serious – Jan’s Sushi Bar is one of 20 blogs has nominated for the “Best Healthy Living Blogs of 2011:  20 Healthy Eating Blogs That Make Us Go Mmmmmm.”  Not only that, I am in the company of A-List bloggers such as Pioneer Woman, Smitten Kitchen, Chocolate and Zucchini, Joy the Baker and 101 Cookbooks.

To say I am overwhelmed and honored is an understatement.

So, I am going to do the unthinkable and ask you to vote for me.  Not because I want to win – frankly, with competition like Ree Drummond and Heidi Swanson, I don’t stand a snowball’s chance in Hell – but because I am the ONLY paleo/primal/traditional foods/real foods blog in the running.  I know you’re there, readers; I see it every day in the increased traffic looking for the kinds of recipes that I’ve been posting for the last 16 months, and in the enthusiastic feedback I’ve received from both longtime and new readers.

Please vote for me, because a vote for Jan’s Sushi Bar is a vote for paleo.  It’s a vote for primal.  It’s a vote for traditional.  It’s a vote for real food.

My nomination page can be found here.  You can vote for me by clicking the “Vote for this blog!” link, which will take you to a list of all the nominated blogs (you’ll have to scroll down), or you can go directly to the voting page.

Thank you all in advance…and for being there.

Voting concludes October 28.
